The Importance of Setting Goals

The Importance of Setting Goals

As we know, December is incredibly busy for all hair, beauty and wellness salons. It’s a time when our clients really put their all into self care, ensuring they look and also feel their best heading into the new year. However for us as business owners and managers, we too need to take the time to look at setting our own personal goals, looking ahead to the next 12months and setting our eyes on the next benchmark that we set ourselves. Each November into December I take the time to set out what I want to achieve for the next year, as this allows me to plan and put onto paper the journey to get there.

Top 5 Benefits of Goal Setting:

  • Increases your own personal motivation
Working towards a goal fuels motivation – it ignites a spark within you that will see you encouraged and excited to achieve your end goal. I find that when i have a goal int he distant future, I work harder to achieve the smaller milestones that lead me o this end goal, and in turn get so much more completed with this in sight.
  • Increases Productivity
Having that goal in site, will encourage you to complete more tasks on your way to achieving the end result. When planning and working towards something, there are many miniature targets you will be required to achieve in order to achieve the overall goal. I do find that productivity generally increases when I am excited and working towards something.
  • Easier Decision Making
This is something that as a business owner, I often put a lot of time and effort into. Decision making is vital when you know the direction and success relies on your shoulders. It’s definitely made easier when you have a plan in place and I do find decision are made much easier this way.
  • You Control Your Future
If you don’t have a plan for your business’s future, you risk simply going along with circumstances instead of shaping your own journey. Setting goals allows you to take control of your future and determine how to reach that end goal. By documenting your goals and outlining the steps to achieve them, you create a roadmap for the future. This approach gives you clarity and enables you to focus on what you aim to accomplish in the months and years ahead.

Equally as important as setting your goals, is tracking your progress and adjusting your plans where required. Salon Manager allows you, the business owner,  the ability to access reports on your business as a whole and drill down to each individual team member.  It also allows your team have the ability to access their own statistics and KPI’s to provide them with the freedom and ability to work towards their own goals.
