The important drivers to your business

The important drivers to your business

In this month’s blog post, we caught up with Lindsey Charlton at Hooker and Young who was recently awarded Manager of the Year at the 2024 British Hairdressing Business Awards to get her insight into ‘How to be successful in your management role – the important drivers to your business’…

TEAM – your team dynamics are so important everyone has to gel. A client can sense a tense environment they should see and feel happy in the salon they have chosen for me time. Make sure your team feels motivated, appreciated and supported in a safe space with clear goals, expectations and standards in place.

CLIENT LOYALTY – your clients are the core of your business – make sure they feel important and valued. Our clients are like our loyal friends to the salon. I believe it’s important from your youngest team member to your longest standing members that you get to know all your clients there likes and dislikes and everyone as a collective makes the client journey perfect.  Train your young members to understand service and the expectations of your clients so they are wowed at every visit.

REVIEWS/FEEDBACK/TRAINING/EDUCATION – in the salon world it’s important to evolve yourself and stay ahead of the game. Feedback from your clients keeps consistency at it’s highest and training keeps the team motivated. Use each team members strengths to promote a strong team relationship, learning from each other and sharing knowledge.

PROFITABILITY – there are many ways you can improve profitability, including making sure there is no product waste and that white space is filled – having an amazing front of house looking after your stylists columns will help ensure productivity. Plan your year, work with your product companies to support you in quieter times and use your free time efficiently. If a client cancels can that time be used for further training and development or to take part in an online tutorial? Make each moment at work count.

SOFTWARE – make sure your salon software works for you. Does it have the reports you will need to check financial turnover, client reminders, reward systems, linked social media activity, easy booking and rebooking systems?
